WILL BE A FILM FEST STRICTLY DEDICATED TO EXPLOITATION AND GRIND HOUSE CINEMA.
EXPLOITATION
CINEMA IS A LOOSELY DEFINED TERM TO DESCRIBE A GENRE OF FILMS THAT TYPICALLY
SACRIFICE THE TRADITIONAL NOTIONS OF ARTISTIC MERIT FOR A MORE SENSATIONALISTIC
DISPLY, OFTHEN FEATUREING EXCESSIVE SEX, VIOLENCE, AND GORE. SUCH FILMS HAVE EXISTED SINCE THE EARLIEST
DAYS OF MOVIEMAKING, BUT THEY WERE POPULARIZED IN THE 1970’S AND 80’S. THIS FEST WILL INCLUDE THREE 35MM FILMS AND
ONE DIGITALLY PROJECTED MOVIE. SCREENING WILL BE A MIX OF POPULAR EXPLOITAION
GENRES INCLUDING NUNSPLOITATION, SHOCKPLOITATION, SEXPLOITATION AND A CLASSIC
EXPLOITATION FILM.

* “GUARDIAN OF HELL” 1980. On 35mm film will start around 7:30pm.
Plot Synopsis: A priest investigates
paranormal activity at a nuns' convent where a deep, dark secret is about to
resurface in the guise of murder! Could the devil be behind this, or is that
just what Mother Superior wants everyone to believe? With a soundtrack by legendary Italian synth
band “Goblin.”
* “SAVAGE STREETS” 1984. Screening @ 9:15pm on 35mm
Plot Synopsis: This touching tale tells the story
of Brenda (Blair), a tough high school gal who spends her nights drinking peach
brandy on the streets of LA with her equally tough friends. One night, they
make the mistake of messing with a gang called the Scars, and before you know
it, the Scars have raped and beaten Brenda's deaf, mute sister. Once Brenda
learns the truth of what happened, she vows revenge on those responsible.
Directed by Daniel Steinman (Friday the 13th Pt 5), this
film has some of the best (and worst) dialogue ever to grace the screen. Blair
is fantastic, a hilarious mix of flared nostrils and foul language. Even better
is John Vernon, as the principal, in his second film with Blair (Chained Heat
is another must see). Vernon
steals every scene he's in, whether he's telling Brenda she has "a great
body" (!) or telling the Scars to "go f**k an iceberg"!
This is the ultimate 80s high school movie - terrible music, awful acting,
questionable violence and gratuitous nudity.
A true Grind House classic.
* “BOOB
TUBE” 1975.
Screening @ 11:00pm on 35mm
Plot Synopsis: Though
packaged as a clone of "The Groove Tube" or "Kentucky Fried
Movie", 90% of it is actually one story, a kind of spoof of soap operas.
The other 10% are parodies of commercials from the era. Both parts are
amazingly unfunny and bad. A true testament of how cheesy a movie can be. Full of bare flesh and girl on girl action.
* “PERVERT” 2005. Screening @ 12:45am on digital projection. Area premiere.
Plot Synopsis: A word. What is the pervert? Sex freak,
deranged degenerate, disturbed diabolical psychotic subversive embracer of
things both erotic and erratic. What is to pervert? The twist of an object,
phrase or ideal in such a way it was never intended or even imagined. Who is
the pervert? Why, that's another story altogether... A young man (Sean Andrews
as "James") comes to spend the summer at the remote desert ranch of
his father (Darrell Sandeen as "Hezekiah") in hopes of repairing
their estranged relationship only to find that he's become a psychotic madman.
But who is responsible for the bizarre murders James has uncovered? Hezekiah
pins the blame on his son, and after a series of unexplainable incidents, James
begins to doubt his own suspicions. Little does he know that the real killer
lurks just under his nose!
The
“Exploit This” film fest, May 22nd 7pm.
“Pervert” is a silly little exploitation flick that combines
the staples of any good horror-comedy, mixing tons of nudity with a fair amount
of blood and off the wall humor. Think
of any old Russ Meyer film updated to the year 2005 and you get “Pervert.”
THE GOAL is to embrace this genre of
filmmaking that has been disrespected and underappreciated. Exploitation cinema is a genre that many
modern day directors model. Ie. Quentin
Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Eli Roth and Paul Verhoeven. With the upcoming success of the current
Tarantino film “Grind House” a look back at the roots of 70’s and 80’s
exploitation cinema is a must for any cinephile grind house fan. Syracusefilm.net is an internet site that

studios could use if a studio desires to shoot a feature film in Central New York.
